Research

In a research aspect I am interested in exploring dance throughout other cultures and what is the meaning behind each dance style. I love how every country has it's own dance style and they're all completely different. I would like to learn about as many different styles as I can.

In February 2020 I left for a two-week tour in Bahia, Brazil traveling to three cities within Bahia. We went to Salvador, Lencois, and Arembepe where we performed for locals and in local schools. We also participated in workshops and classes with the federal dance company in Salvador and other local dance teachers. We also took part in historical tours, drumming session, capoeira classes, etc. This was my first time going abroad and I absolutely loved it. Learning about the people and culture made me want to explore even more about my Hispanic heritage.

Senior Thesis Project 2020

For my senior thesis [roject I chose to focus on Latinx cultural influence on contemporary dance. I learned and shared information about basic Latin dance forms and how we can use them to inform our contemporary movement. The final presentation was a performance with two live musicians, eight OSU dancers including myself, and five young children. I choose to use a wide age range to demonstrate the use of dance and Latin culture throughout many generations. I learned so much about myself and how to communicate my research with my cast and the public. I want to thank everyone who was apart of this process and helping to make my ideas come true!

This past January I had the opportunity to attend the International Association for Blacks in Dance Conference held in Philadelphia. This was my third year attending the conference with Ohio State and I really enjoyed all of the performances that were offered and gave me a reminder of why I love to dance.

This past January I had the wonderful opportunity of attending the International Association of Blacks in Dance Conference for the second year in a row in Dayton, OH. I had the chance to perform with an ensemble to represent The Ohio State University which was a huge achievement. I was able to take many classes one of which I got to take a class from Mrs. Alicia Graf Mack, Artistic Director of Dance at the Juilliard School. I was also able to see many companies perform such as Phildanco, Alvin Ailey, Ronald K. Brown, etc. I greatly appreciated this experience and hope to attend next year!
